I never take my truck 4-wheeling, offroading, mudding, or whatever you want to call it. These trucks are not made for that. 4WD is a luxury and only used when needed (weather conditions, work, or perhaps a hunting trip).

My recovries are limited to those in need... e.g. stuck in a ditch, in snow, etc. I don' jack around off-road and if my friends do, its on them. That way, I don't need help either. I am sorry, but $40K is an expensive toy. I will use my $1500 beater for that if I really HAD to.

We all know a friend can't afford to fix a serious mishap, so I just avoid the situation. I will help, but I am not putting my hard work, financial well being, and my family's vehicle in jeopardy because a friend wanted to have fun in the mud. They go prepared... or they pay the price for an off-road vehicle recovery company to help them out.
I dont agree with you at all when you say that you wont help a friend in need! I would not like you to be a friend. If there is a friend in need ill be there no problem. No questions asked, and they will and have done the same thing for me. I geuss you havent seen people using these trucks where offroad is in a job title they are made and with a few extra mods are very capable offroad rigs! Honestly sir you put money and material belongings well over friendship. Please OP dont take this out look on life in life you only avarage 5 GOOD friends in your lifetime, keep the ones you have and do anything to help (they will help you in your time of need). Hope everything turns out ok!

I have to agree here. I don't have too many good friends but I do have some that I would drive my truck into mudhole for. New or not. Because I know they would do the same. I know they would because they have. Even if it meant damage to my truck.

Misunderstanding, I bought the FX4 knowing the truck was going to go off the pavement. For example hunting season, bass fishing, and obviously to help a friend if need be. I did not however plan on taking it four-wheeling or mudding.

Thank you very much trimble, I'm glad somebody else is willing to help a friend in need. It's nice to see that there are other people who are willing to do a good thing. To prove your point about friends helping in return, I had two trucks come out there at 5 in the morning to try and get me out and 3 others later on. When I finally got out, without hesitation, a friend backed up to tow me home. Every one of the trucks that came out there, I had helped out before, Im glad I have friends that are willing to return favors graciously.

And sorry guys, there are'nt any pictures. I dont have a camera phone and apparently none of my friends bothered to take any pictures.

Damn, I want to see what happened. Did you kill the motor or did it kill itself? Remove your intake and look for water at the end of the housing, and in the throttle body. It will be easy to find. If it looked like your engine was above water, and your headlights were up to the water, you were at a sharp angle diving into the hole. Your engine probably did not hydrolock unless you were hard on the throttle and your intake was near water level. It's kinda tough to hydrolock, but I always throw a shirt over my intake before I go diving into holes

i've already been the one calling upon my freinds for help, and you find out real fast who's got the *****, and the respect for you, to come to your aid and put thier chit on hold to help your dumbass out. I gained alot of respect for a few freinds of mine that have helped me out that i never would have imagined would have. I have helped out alot of other freinds already, and when these guys call me next time for help, i'll be there again.

Its a truck, it can be replaced. Good friends cant be.

Your posts makes a ton a sense. Especially with the hindsight. I was driving home from working out of town in a snow storm here in Texas last month. There were quite a few cars and truck that had slid off the road and into the median. What did I do? I kept driving. I told a buddy about it, and his comment was "Why would you want to help idiots that cannot drive, and risk your truck, or your life helping those that need more than just a tow out of the snow?" I would have helped if I saw small children... Since they were adults, I figured they needed a life lesson...

A truly good friend would have called a tow truck, and saved him $6500....

Umm here in Florida home of the MUD there arent tow trucks that will go back in there! but like i said ealier its a question of money over friendship. The OP did this in aid of a friend, he has his heart in the right place. And no i wont pull total strangers out of a ditch, all you have to do is break a strap or bend something on their car and i bet you get a law suit for it.

And I will and always will pull a friend out of a "sticky situation".

Most tow trucks wont go back there becuase they dont want to get themselves stuck or for insurance reasons. I know i would help my buddies even if it cost $6500 or more. It just depends on how loyal of a friend you are.

Well yeah, if I were a drug dealer...and had money to **** away.

Thats the secret about getting older. When you are young, you let your buddies drag you down. When you are older, ya just sit back and laugh at them.

I guess there's two different opinions on this thread, I'm not in any way disrespecting the people here who say that they wouldn't help a friend out, I can see their reasoning and I respect their decision to do what they want with their truck. Yes, I wish that I hadn't gone out there to get the idiots who got stuck, but I did. Because those idiots were my friends who would have come day or night to pull me out if it were I who got stuck. I've always had a hard time telling people no when they need help. And when I get a call from any of those guys that came out there to help me, you can bet your last dollar that I'll be there to help them if I am able to.
