Go down to TSC and pick out what strength you want I have a 30,000lb recovery strap that is 30ft long and 3" wide I think

I too have a firehose, but have never used it due to the uncertainty of it's strength. I bought a 4" 40K lb ****** strap from Northern Tool for ~$40.

Never try to tow or "unstick" someone by attaching to your tow ball. Think of that tow ball acting as a 2lb cannon ball that will go through anything in it's path should it break.

As others have said, get a shackle that will attach to a towbar fitted into your reciever hitch. I got mine from 4Wheel Parts for about $35.

Shackle Selection

One thing to keep in mind is the load rating of the shackle you use to attach the strap to the vehicle. There are a lot of low quality cheap ones out there at home depot and lowes. Think about the load a 30,000 lb strap will put on it with a good ******. You really don't want a 10,000 lb shackle exploding and becoming a missle.

Put the end of your tow strap into your receiver and put the pin through the strap eye. Toss the strap into your bed. If you need it the strap is ready to go.

This works very well. No ball to worry about, no d-ring to open up, no extra receiver accessory to buy.

THat sounds pretty simple and effective! THink that would work with the firehose? I have had good luck with the firehose and really like the way it has worked for me so far. Definatley will not be tieing it around the ball anymore thanks to the visuals I've gotten from the comments on here.

I lived in Bridgewater for 2 years and finally bought a house in Tampa now. Is the traffic out in WC any better yet? It was one of the main reasons I got out. Working at Busch Gardens it was a lengthy drive waiting in traffic on SR 54.

Give us some specifics on the hose, is it LDH (5"), 3", 2-1/2, 1-3/4 ? As a FF I frown apon using hose as a strap although I have seen it done. You can pick up quality straps cheap sometimes

20,000 pound
30,000 pound

Don't pull from a ball no matter what your actual ball mount is, they are not made for it and can fail with deadly results.
