Rear Tow Hooks

I am sure this has been answered, but when I search my browser craps out...

Anyhow, I stumbled into a new pair of F150 Front Tow Hooks (the new style closed loop). Anyhow, I thought these would be great to put on the back on each frame rail.

Because it it 5 degrees outside with a wind chill of 15 below 0, I can't (don't want to) go outside and check my frame rail to see if they will mount.

Has anyone done this, and will they bolt right up, or will I need to fab a bracket or drill the frame?

Any help is appreciated.

BACKGROUND: I ended up pulling a hunting buddy about 400 yards of of deep snow and had to pull with my front hooks as I had left my receiver hitch mount with the D-Ring at home. I had to do this backwards, so pulling the opposite way would have been great. NOTE: His 4WD selector switch crapped on him causing him to get stuck.

You could probably weld them to the reciever rails and have better luck then to the frame rails. I think the frame rails would be too far up inside the truck and you would be pulling on you rear bumper. Or just keep you D ring with you at all times. Thats one thing that should never be left home.

even with a hitch in the rear, arent they only rated for 5000 lbs? is it safe to pull a stuck vehicle out with that?

I'm pretty sure the receivers are more than 5'000 lbs. I have pulled many trucks out using just the receiver. I usually just hook my chain to the holes used for the chains on a trailer. When I use my strap for jerking or snatching I throw a 10,000 lb clevis on there and we're all set.

While this is on the front of a ranger I have often thought about doing this to the rear of my F150. It hangs low enough that it wouldnt be into the rear bumper when pulling and the clevis can be removed and put in the truck for safe keeping when not needed.

No the recievers are made to pull alot more then 5k. Ive pulled 9k just on a trailer. My class IV is rated to I think 14k. Im not sure but it is plenty strong non the less to weld tow hooks on too.

The 5K or 6K limitation is you ball mount limitation. On average 1-7/8" = 5K, a 2" = 6K, and a 2-1/4" = 6K or more.

The hitch itself self that is bolted to the frame is rated at around 11K I think, maybe 14K as you mentioned. Long story short, the hitch itself can take quite a load and is invaluable when trying to get "unstuck" with the assistance of other trucks.

This is my D-Ring/Shackle

This is the shackle I use on my truck normally. The shackle pivots left/right vs. up down. I figured it would prevent a strap or chain from getting pinched in the corner. Plus, the bright yellow warns the folks who don't watch their shins.

where could you get those mounts for the D-rings at? I know i have stumbled across some on the web before but couldnt even begin to remember where I saw them. Getting them welded onto the receiver hitch shouldnt be a problem at all

wish they werent out of stock i was going to order a set...anyone know if there is any other companies out there that make them? ive got a an extra set of tow hooks from the front but I would much rather the D-ring option for the back b/c of the ease of hooking up a strap when i need to pull someone out

thanks thats what i needed...also anyone with more knowledge on the subject than me... check out this link and see if its something that could be made to work on our trucks...ive been searching for a way to replace my front tow hooks with d-ring's due to the ease of attaching straps to them... this jeep owner did something that i think might work...
