screw came thru in the pinch last night

well got the call at about 4:00am this morning from a buddy of mine that he had to go pull somebody outta the mud on the powerlines we have played on hundreds of times, he wanted to borrow my strap b/c he couldnt find his anywhere. I met him at his house and followed him out to the powerlines to see where the other truck was at. we both had a truck full of folks, he drives a z71 silverado crewcab 4x4..like an 2004 model, with 35" nitto mud grapplers. we head out there and doesnt want me to risk taking my truck all the way back to the back of the powerline so he takes the strap with him and heads down the trail and i told him to call me if they needed anything else. about 20 minutes later my phone rings and sure enough its him, his truck sank pretty bad on the passenger side trying to pull out the other truck...i told him i would make my way back there too him. its about a 10 minute ride down the powerline to where they are, with some deep washouts and one really stout 50-65 ft hill climb that is about 45 degrees up, its a pretty fun place to play when its daylight outside, not to great in the middle of the night. after i crawled back to where they were at i found not just my buddys truck and one other truck stuck, but three other vehicles..apparently they all just decided to go be stupid at the same time, its a known fact that the hole they were all stuck in is a sinkhole, pretty much everyone that rides this area knows this and avoids that place at all costs. then i find out that the guy that called my buddy out here actually got stuck out here the night before and had to get pulled out, he just felt like repeating his mistake with friends this time. i ended up backup to my buddys truck and hooking up the strap and snatching him out, broke one strap and it slung back and dented the crap out of my tailgate (its going to be replaced now due to this, thank goodness for insurance). after about six or seven more snatches he came out, his passenger side was sunk to the door sills. after the longer of the two straps we had out there broke and i got my buddy out of the hole i told the other guys (who i didnt know) that i wasnt risking my truck getting sunk in that mess to pull them out, i knew that there was no way they were getting out with just one 10 ft strap b/c i wasnt getting my truck that close to the hole. one was in a nissan titan on 35s that was buried door deep on both sides, second vehicle was a 4runner on 33s maybe? that had its entire front end buried over the bumper in the hole and its back end was sank halfway up the tires, the third vehicle was a tundra with stock sized mud tires and it was sunk to the axles, all vehicles were separated by about 20 feet each. im not really sure how they managed to sink all three like that but i wasnt letting my truck end up like them. after talking it over with my buddy, we gave one of the guys who was out there a ride back into town to go find him someone else to go get them out. but the screw did ****** that z71 right on out and it only cost me a tailgate and a strap. did much better than my last late night extraction i attempted where i couldnt seem to get my truck to do anything but get itself stuck. just figured i would share.

Wow... I've been through that, too. Got my truck stuck, got a buddy's truck stuck trying to get me out. Got a tow truck stuck the next day. We had to get a bigger tow truck w/ a 300 ft winch cable to get the other tow truck out, and then my buddy, and finally me. Now I have some mud tires. I'm pretty sure that I wouldn't have gotten stuck had I not been on factory ATs! But more importantly, the lesson I learned is to take a look at where you're planning to go before you try to go there, and attempt while there's still daylight!
