Winch Mounting Options

What do you guys think is the best way to mount a winch? WARN has a few options, the ones that I like best are either the portable option or the grille guard with the winch installed in it.

I see that they also have the hidden/semi-hidden options, but I don't know whether I like that or not.

i kindof prefer the hidden/semi hidden look myself. i have found that brushguards with winch mounts on them end up causing more damage than good (im talking the Warn type, not the much stouter ARB type that is full body armor and meant to take a beating) i have some pics of a hidden winch mount on the f-150 if you want to see that. it depends on what year truck you have as well..

I use a reciever mount, both ends. The front recievers all come out under the bumper, so the winch is VERY low - I cut and redesigned mine to come out above the bumper - cuts through the top of the license plate. 9500# winch - love it and works great.

I ve seen a few F150s with the hidden kit. Looks real nice! Clean, and all you can se is the fairlead, and the hook coming out. Nice and clean. That is probably what I am getting when I get the $$$

On the hidden mounts, If you run a rope you can get a very small and clean looking fairlead without the rollers. Some are even anodized black, so hardly noticeable at all.

If you have an '06 or up, then your options dwindle to...nearly nothing. Warn doesn't make hidden winch setups for '06 and up.

oh wow, i wasnt aware of that, i thought a hidden mount was available for pretty much every make and model of fullsize truck. check with other winch brands to see if they have a hidden mount available, or call warn and see if they have one due for release.

I would suggest a reciever mount for a daily driven rig. If you put a front reciever on the truck it will allow you to move the winch from front to back. This comes in REAL handy offroad. Plus when you're not wheeling you can simply pull the winch out of the truck and leave it at home. No need to worry about it being stolen or damaged in an accident. Plus you can easily throw this on anything else that has 12V power and a reciever.

The downside is it kills your approach and departure angles.
