does anybody know anything about the 89 bronco 2 with 4x4. Mainly I need to know more about the transmissions in them.

IIRC, the automatic was the A4LD... not the most robust design ever, but not a bad choice for most of what that vehicle was used for.

IIRC, the manual is the M5OD... mazda-built, but again, not the most bulletproof trans out there. There are better choices.

What info are you looking for specifically? A great resource is www.4x4central.com. It's a bunch of Explorer nuts, and the 1st gen Explorers were essentially long Bronco-IIs. A lot of the members over there wheel the bIIs.

Well i'm looking to do a swap because my tranny, a4ld, is crap and won't do anything. I want a five speed but I want a decent tranny, that will last for some time and maybe even a little abuse.

Also check out www.therangerstation.com and ask those guys. If those guys dont know, no one does! I have been a member for years and have learned a lot about those vehicles.
