Question Water Damage from offroading...

I was going through some holes and having a blast and then went through well actually got stuck in one that was deeper than I had imagined. I got pulled out but not after water got into my cab and almost filled up to the chair on my passenger side and covered the pedals on my driver's side. As I was driving home the transmission wouldn't shift and it was stuck in I think 2nd gear. After I got home I turned off the truck and it wouldn't start again. I checked the dipstick to the tranny and there was water drops all along the stick. I didn't get to see how the fluid actually looked. Someone told me if it looks like Pepto then I'm screwed. I have good power from my battery but it seems like the computer module or whatever it's called is on the fritz. The interior light will flash on and off and the door dinger goes on and off along with the radio. Do I have to take it to the shop to get it fixed or are there somethings I can do to get her going again? Any input would be appreciated. Thanks.

I would flush all the fluids (tranny fluid, motor oil, differential fluid) as a start. I hate to say it but you may be a victim of a hydro-locked engine. Sorry to hear about all that dude, especially on such a new truck.

I think you may have hydrolocked your engine. Pulling these plugs isn't the easiest thing to do I wish you the best of luck.

there is a pretty good chunk of wires and motion sensors and stuff behind the passenger side kick panel (under the lip of the dash) that sounds like it was underwater. That would be a bad thing. You might have also gotten a ground cable or two knocked off of the body/frame of the truck.

Im fairly confident that you didn't hydro lock, b.c your intake wasnt under water.....

Water inside the drivetrain might very well be the problem (transmission). I seriously doubt it's a waterlocked engine. If it was, you wouldn't have been able to drive it home. Plus the aformentioned intake not in the water thing. I would suspect an electrical problem myself.

Exactly! Drain all fluids you can aSAP. Dont let water sit in the trans and motor causing damage. The f & R diffs most likely need to be flushed too. Try to locate your computer that was under water, remove it and hit it with a hair dryer(low setting). After everything is dry take contact grease and fill all connections with it to push out any water. Bolt it all back up and try to fire. If its not firing get a voltameter on the starter and see if your even getting current there. I have seen 2 or 3 starters go out from mud and water but also seen my share of other things causing the problems. Good luck man

Thanks for the input fellas. I think the engine is okay. I pulled the dipstick and didn't see any water. The tranny fluid didn't look so good. Also a buddy of mine who works at the Ford dealership took a look and didn't like the way the floorboard was still wet and when he pulled the fuse box cover water came out of it. He said likely it'll need some electrical work and maybe the tranny might be in decent shape.

Youd know if you hydrolocked the engine, had that happen to my old Explorer. Made a helluva racket on the drive home (bent rod). Hopefully the tranny is ok. Sucks about the electrical.

First of all, erase these post ASAP. Secondly, I hope your Ford buddy didn't log your truck in to repair. Thirdly, don't ever get into a hole that you don't know how deep it is. "Fourthly" , wash every bit of mud in every corner, nook and cranny of your truck out!

Now, call your auto insurance company (assuming you have it) and tell them either you got caught in high water (hopefully you've had a lot of rain lately where you're at) or that you were run off the road by an on-coming vehicle and swerved into a ditch full of water.

Personally, I wouldn't condone, nor do the above, but if you're down on your luck and are not that honest of a person, you might try it. Hopefully, you'll learn from the mistake and not make it twice. I feel for you, because I couldn't imagine the feeling of a fairly new $40K truck being treated that way.

Good luck

That has to be the most ignorant post I have seen. The man built his truck for wheeling. He just got unlucky and hit the wrong hole. Lieing to the insurance company isnt a good idea. I bet Tnoff is man of integirty he as no reason to lie. See when you wheel (obviously you don't) you have chance of breaking things. If he wants to take his 40k truck offroad so be it. I have broken my truck several times going off road. Guess what I still go, if it breaks it breaks. I don't go out there and try to break stuff but it just happeneds. Tnoff your might have to get new carpet and new wiring, but I am sure you had fun before it happened. I am sure you will rember that day wheeling, I know I remeber what was going on when I broke something or got stuck. Only thing I would have to agree with Sacketts post is wash it good.

03FXF150, while I know the public schools in MS are in total dissaray, I would think you could have some semblance of common sense. You seem to be one of the "internet bravo's" who just don't have a clue. First off, I never said Tnoff wasn't a man of integrity, and I never said he was either. How the hell would I, or you for that matter, know his integrity? As to my "wheeling" of my trucks, you couldn't really have a clue about that either since I don't know you from Adam. I'd venture that i've probably been off-roading in one of my trucks in the last year more than you've done in your lifetime.

I do apologize for posting this "reply" and getting away from the topic of the thread, but I won't be called "ignorant" by some hillbilly internet poser that feels his bravado behind a keyboard and monitor. If you'd like to e-mail me personally off line, you can do so here rsacketttx@yahoo.com. I'd be more than happy to send you some pics of my off-roading trips to quell your concern. Matter of fact, I did some off-roading on the MS side along the Pearl River just this past Friday with the in-laws....
