biggest bank for your buck

hey everyone I have a 2001 f-150 with 33x12.5 Baja claw radials. K&N intake. And getting the exhaust next week. I am getting ready to start working on the "off-road" performance of it. I was just wondering what everybody thought the best mod to get for off-roading is. Locker? Lift? Gears? ect...

Well we need alittle more info on what type of wheeling you plan on doing and how much money are you looking to spend. I am going to assume its 4wd. Since you already got tires that would be my first choice. If you don't have alot of money I would say invest in a winch or body lift. If you got the money go for the suspension lift, bigger tires, gears, lockers, and better skids. Just give alittle more info and I am sure we could help ya out.

well I do alot of Hunting and Fishing but I also like mud and some hill climbing. I don't want something to outrageous and money isn't really an issue I have been saving for this for a while. I had a lift on my 85 f-250 and the ride was really ruff. Then again it was all around leaf springs. I was kind of wondering how the lifts for these trucks ride. I guess I kind of want an all arround vehicle performs well on the road but still has the ability to do well in all sorts of off road conditions. I'm deffinately goin to get a winch though. Thanks for the help

Get an electric locker... or two... by far the best bang for your buck.

Hmm I would suggest a 6inch lift and some 35s. I would go 4.10s or 4.88 gears. Now with it being a manily road vechile I would go with either a LS or as mentioned above a selectable locker in the front. About the ride quality I cant speak for myslef (just yet ) but I am sure someone will chime in. Those mods should give you a pretty good well rounded truck.

I figured a locker would probably be my first purchase and figured on a lift at some time I am not to worried about the ride but maybe just more interested in which lift company has the best ride in everyones opinion

While getting stuff out of the axle for a locker, might as well upgrade gears at the same time. Will save you a little money on down the line.

How strong are the front axles for dealing with a locker and larger tires/gears???

hey man,

kinda off topic, but can you post a picture of your truck? I wanna see what it looks like with those size tires on it.

Cheers

in my opinion bang for the buck would be tires everything else in this order

1. locker or LS in the rear
2. lift (fabtech 6" has a great ride to it and best made IMO) bigger tires
3. gears
4. front locker (ARB air locker)
5. winch
6. skid plates
7. on board air system (airing down and airing back up)
8. small things that can be done in any order but are still important good recovery points, good jack, fullsize spare, CB radio, GPS, aux lights for night
4x4 trips, step bars (protect from rocks on the side panels), good shocks, probably alot i forgot but i think i got the basics.

I have had problems with my starter motor getting clogged with mud, and I have had top replace it once. Is this just bad luck or do I need some skid plates? And if so, where and what should I get?
I have a 97 4x4 ext. cab with 285/75s, no lift.
