Protecting intake, etc from mudding: Sites or Products

I don't do anything extreme but I got some muddy water and what not in my intake behind the filter and in the tranny. I want to know what you serious off-roaders do to protect the truck. Are there sites or products that you can recommend?

Items that protect the engine bay itself, intake, etc.

I don't want this to be an issue again.

The truck is a stock 2004.

Thanks in advance.

Jim.

Get a filter. It's suppose to filter dirt. If you'rs didn't; it sucks.

ahhh the useful UC chimes in again.

Well obviously it didn't work. I got water in there which really sucked.

I looked at the volant...might try it.

Dont you have someone new to be sucking up to at work?

Maybe reroute the intake like the do on four wheelers and make it removable. But how about a K&n prefilter sprayed with water repelant. Or a lift kit to get you up higher. What type of intake are you running. I dont belive I would get a volant due to sticking a tube below the bumper where splash could possibly enter.

On the Volant the tube below the bumper is an add on ram air tube and wouldn't be used for serious off roading.

Yea it looked like the base model was pretty tight and took air from the same spot as the stock intake...over the drivers front wheel.

Am I wrong.

Yeah, it takes air in from the stock and also from the front of the box, on mine I rigged up a ram air tube (out of dryer vent ducting) that runs to the grill area.

Whatever you do if you run the K&n or most any air filter for that matter take and outwear it. It will not make a difference on airflow but is designed to filter better and block water. Shoot I know guys that run snorkels on fourwheelers with a k&n sticking up above racks and the outer wear which they say repells alot of water but if it rains they must stop driving.

Tie a tarp under your truck next time, works great and it's an old remedy to keep mud out of places they shouldn't be, there are plenty of points to tie up to under there (w/bungee cords). Good luck and the boxed volant was what I should have got myself, I hear ya.

Volant trade-off

Hi Vader -

Remember this?

https://www.f150online.com/forums/sh...7&postcount=17

A tradeoff between sealing and performance.

Use the tarp - it's removable And as Faster f150 would say - it's 'ghetto'

You have a great sense of humour - you took a lot of ribbing over this.

Good luck

Cheers
Grog
