offroading problem with airbags
ok i figured you offroading guys might have an idea to help
i was offroading and hit a rock, not very hard, but hard enough to deploy the airbags. i never thought that was going to happen. is there a way to disengage the airbags? and how much do yall think it'll be to get new airbags?
thanks

yeh that's why i do not understand how this happened. my friend who was with me has been 4 wheelin a lot and he has never seen airbags go off like that. maybe they are just really sensitive cuz i dont think we hit that hard. we were creeping along down a ditch when i think the bumper or the mounts for my bullbar hit the rock. still confused why this happened and not happy bout the money its gonna cost to replace the airbags
Replacement airbag systems may range from $1,000 to $3,000, maybe more if the dashboard shell or other dash components are damaged by the force of a passenger side deployment.

It ain't cheap
this is probably a dumb question but do yall think i should bother replacing the airbags? i'd rather spend that money on something else although i know the airbags are important

Well assuming you don't have a supercrew I probably would.
The non-screw models from that year didn't fair to well on frontal impact accidents. I'd pay for it but in the end its a gamble.

it is a supercrew so im still deciding to either fix it or my friends are telling me to try to get insurance to pay for it or see if my extedned warranty covers it. i just dont wanna drop all that money as a poor college kid like myself doesnt have a lot and it all goes to pay for my truck/gas anyway
Its rare that that happens but the front airbag sensors are usually located on the frame rails, probably close to where your bumber and bull bar is mounted so that impact was transferred right to the sensor. Toyota Landcrusiers actually have a switch to disable the airbags for offroading, i think it automaticly turns them back on when the truck gets over a certain speed.
