lost my virginity

ok, finally lost my virginity. i've had my winch for about 2 yrs and
pulled out over a half dozen stuck folks, but never been stuck myself.

this last monday evening, i got my turn. you all may have heard of all
the rain we've been getting out here in california over the recent
weeks. i live on the coast, monterey bay. the 'soil' here is just
pushed up sediment and when it gets wet, it becomes brown soup.
even with foreknowledge, i wasnt immune to foolishness.

i had headed out to get a few items at the store and passed by
the far end of town where a large field that is the favorite
of local kids to kick around in the mud.

passing, i saw 3 vehicles out on the perimeter road and near the
furthest about a dozen folks stood. i thought, ok, mabye i can
help.

i headed out the perimeter road, the inch or so slop was normal, but
i could feel my 6k++ lb rig getting squirrely, but proceeded slowly,
getting one set of wheels on the field side of the road, the other
set on the road; i thought, ok, the grass on the field may get me
a bit more traction than just the slop.

but as i got further out, the slop got worse and it was clear
that as the road dipped ahead and was even juicier, i'd never make it.

now headed out, on the left, an open field. on the right, a border of
brush. i was successful in doing a 180 on the field side and headed back
toward the pavement, but for some strange reason, i figured, ok, if i
can put one set of wheels on the field side and the other on the harder
packed road way, i should be able to do the same on the way back, putting
one set of wheels on the brush side of the road. Major Error!!!

the front left no sooner got a bit to the left of the hardpacked
road when it sunk to the axle. i stepped out and promptly sunk
almost to my knee. swell!

so i have a kit and unpacked it, using my towstrap to extend my winch
range to a tree, but the problem was that the tree was just slightly
to the left of the road and so dragging myself with the front left
just plowing wasnt doing me much good.

at this point the gawds of offroad smiled on me and a 'burb showed up to
try and help the guys stuck further out. the driver, being more wise than
i would not stray off the center of the hardpacked road, but agreed to
let me use him as an anchor. so getting my winch to his driver side nose
hook got me a good angle and with a bit more winching, i got my nose
up to the right and back on the road.

so, lesson learned; if out in mushy area, stick to the hardpacked road
or have a good land anchor!

cheers, jackc...

You have to upload your .jpg to an image hosting site, then you can use the "[IMG] [/IMG]" tags with the file name in it. It will have http://xxx.xxx.xxx/xxx.jpg or something to that effect. Try photobucket.com for hosting.

updated path to pix...

actually, i know more about this than offroading.

you are referring to inserting a link, i know how to do that and i
have a hosting site, you can see lots of my offroading at
www.imageintegration.com then try the gallery.

but no, i am asking how to insert an image in the message.

i know its possible as i see it on other forums, i just know the
way to make the icon work. frankly, its bogus to show the xml
tags to a user, a more polished site would accept a blank field
and after the users input add the proper xml tags and process
so the user had no clue xml was even involved.

i dont mean to denigrate this site, i love this forum and the
other stuff here, someone has clearly put a lot of work into this.

its just that the icon for inserting an image is either not operational
or has some magic method to make it work.

thx...

Upload the image into your gallery on F150online. It's free and easy. Then, after you have created your galleries and what not, click on the photo you want to use. When it pops up, click on the forum codes button. When its up, decide what photo size, either thumbnail(small like in my sig) or fullsize. Copy and pase the image codes, it should be a www.f150online.com/photobs.jpg or so. Paste that into the text box, and surround it with the boxes. It should work if you did everything right...

one more time....

this should get it....

i got just off the hardpack and Slurp up to the frame...

if you look in the background, you can see a red vehicle stuck just
past me, but further out, a small crowd of folks, a second vehicle
there...

i tried winching to a tree, but just off to the left wasnt helping much,
a 'burb came along and paused long enough for me to cut over to
him as a land anchor and popped me right out.

shopping for a land anchor now... anyone seen/used a pull-pal?

any better products?

tia, jackc...
