front end

A question for off-roaders, especially those with big tires and big power. Have you ever busted any front end parts? I was out on trails and my spotter was concerned if I had the wheel turned all the way and punched the throttle something would go. I know my half ton IFS won't stand up like a Dana 60 or a Unimog axle, but should I be concerned on the rocks? I'm only running 33's

you should be fine i killed a halfshaft once but it was my fualt, had to pull a stuck truck out of the slop and i couldnt get him out so i put ten feet of slack in the tow strap and guned it, when i came to the end of that ten feet it felt like i hit a brick wall, my front end came up about 3 feet off the ground and started bouncing, i was in low gear also well this caused the CV halfshaft to snap from the impact after the three feet in the air and the bouncing, but for trail use you should be fine with 33" I have 38" 15.5" and i never have any problems on the trail, here is a carnage pic

Yeah, the weak link in the front end is the halfshaft. Typically one of the CV joints lets loose. You can limp it home in 2wd as long as you leave the outer joint in place through the spindle to hold the bearing together. If the inner joint brakes like his did, you need to either replace it, or tear the intermediate shaft off the outer joint to limp it home.
