Greetings

You all have a recommendation for an electric winch? mounting suggestions? ratings? etc?

Thanks

I am sure if you check Warn, Superwinch, or Ramsey's websites, you will be able to find enough information and help you select the proper winch for your application. Personally I would be looking for a Warn, but thats just me. Good luck.

i also recomend warn, probably 9500 pounds should be plenty, we have been using mile marker 9500 pound winches on HMWWV for the Marines since the hummers got introduced and they work great, good luck

there is a "semi-hidden winch mount" kit for the New F150's, take a look at that, it's about $1,000 I believe for just the mount itself. Warn is probably the most successful winch of the few mentioned, but all are "common" per say, namely the Warn & Ramsey setups, depending on the line speed & rating you want, the more $ you'll spend on the actual winch. You can get a hitch receiver mount for the winch and add a front winch so you can switch the winch to the front or back of your vehicle whenever you please, but I'm willing to bet you're not that serious as you're driving a full-size. You'll probably want to run dual battery/alternator setups as well, the more weight you're pulling up a rock/out of a stuck, the more power output you'll need.

Thanks for the suggestions!!! I am leaning towards a receiver mounted winch. It will, I think, be a bit more flexible. The thing I wonder about in this is a class 3 hitch is rated at 5k pounds. Any of you all use this kinda setup? A 9k winch....hmmm...wonder if that will ****** the hitch off the frame? Am I missing something????

I was thinking about the mile markers as well. Dunno what the marines have but when I was in the army the mile marker winches in our humvees were hydraulic.

Thanks
Ed

we had hydraulic for awile but they kept blowing the banjo fitting on the pump so we fazed the hydraulic ones out back in 2000, the mile marker electric ones work way better and you dont have to tie it in to your power steering pump, good luck

I have a WARN 9.5ti I bought at www.discountwinches.com for $915.00 no tax and free shipping. They will beat any delivered advertised price on the net. The other I was looking at that looks great and is economical is the milemarker E12000. Plenty for the truck. here's a website

http://www.winchesplus.com/

Be aware that the class 3 hitch only rates at about 5,000 pounds and sometimes when there is a bouncing load the force increases dramatically, and although the winch can take the extra weight, your hitch may give out, bend, break or warp. I would definitely go with one of the winch mounts that the companies offer. They are meant to handle those types of force. And although the convenience of a receiver mount is tempting, I think they will work great for JEEPS and small offroad vehicles only. Just my opinion.Good luck.
