Cool 4wd not working

Alright guys, ive got a 99 f150 with 103,000 miles on er. started snowing here in michigan, so i couldnt wait to rip around in 4wd. well, the 4wd light comes on and i can hear something near the transfer case make a faint noise, but thats about it. when i try 4 low, stopped, brake on, in neutral, the 4 low light is not coming on... iive checked the obvious fuses according to the manual, ive got suction at the solenoid hose up on firewall. can i make a fitting to "go around" the solenoid to see if that is my problem?

That sucks, you wait all summer for some snow and fun and then it doesn't work. Your best bet maybe taking her to the shop. Good luck.

screw the light, did the gearing change?!

if you get into 4 lo, your fwd progress hould indicate that quickly.

if the idiot light is out, who cares as long as the gears work?!
