It probally would but i am just weighing my options trying to see if it would be cheaper to build my own 4x4 the way i want or just trade in.

It takes more than just axles, unless your just in love with your current 2wd it would be cheaper to just trade it in for a 4 wheel drive.
Otherwise im not sure on the exact particulars but there is allot of work to be done.

I did mine and it wasnt that bad.Everything is pretty much bolt in,but Ive got an older model and parts are a little easier(cheaper)to get.It only took me and one of my buddys about 5 hours to install everything.

There is a HUGE difference between your 1996 and his 2004. His would not be a 5 hour swap.

could be an awesome swap. personally ide grab some superduty axles and a divorced 205 tcase - some late 70s 3/4 tons and 1 tons (fords) had them, that way you wouldnt have to do anything with your tranny. just have a custom driveshaft made up to mate to the tcase. or you could get a (gasp) chebby d44/d60 with passenger side chunk and get a divorced 205 from dodge. this is what i did on my explorer.

or you could use a late 70s 150/bko d44 as they were set up for coils. you could reuse you front coil buckets.

if you are talking about converting everything to a stock 04 style 4x4 you will kill your wallet and the clock. would definitely be cheaper to trade. you have a practically brand new truck so if you put in used parts you may be putting in parts that have more miles than your whole truck. youde be changing tranny, tcase, driveshafts, entire front suspension, front axle assembly, wiring, vacuum system, etc. lots of work.

So how hard would it to be to make my 2wd 2001 screw into a 4x4? Ive got so many add ons on my truck I would love to keep it and get the front tires spinnin too!

Ive been told the frames are different for the 2wd and 4wd up to 2004, so it would be pretty tuff so I gave up hope a while back.

If its too tuff I'll just waita few years and buy a new 4x4 truck. This was my first truck (second vehicle total) so I didnt think long enough about getting a 4x4 when i bought used (and stock) a year ago.

Sorry, hope I'm not butting in.
