where to hook up

Hey all,

I got my 04 F-150 stuck today. Its a 2wd and doesnt have dang tow hooks so i had to hook the chain to the silver colored control arm. Or what ever its called, is there a better place i should have put the chain?? And does anyone know where i can attach a tow hook to the front end, i really dont see where i can bolt one on.

I don't know where else you could hook to. But don't hook to where you did. Those a-arms are not meant to take that kind of force. Obviuosly getting pulled from the back would be the best option, but I guess you already thought of that, and it was not an option. I am not too familar with the 2wd, but maybe you can get aftermarket tow hooks if this is going to be a regular occurence for you.

Man, DO NOT hook hoop to your control arm anymore! They WILL break and cauase a lot of damage to your truck once they snap as your getting pulled out!
For right now, I have a 2wd 04 F150 and was stuck a couple times over the winter. The guy in the superduty who was going to pull me out, told me to hook up the chain to the towing package. So I did, and was pulled out perfactly. If you have a towing package, get pulled out from there.
If you do not have a towing package, do what I did also up front. Go on e-bay, buy yourself a set a tow hooks (I got mine for just 25 bucks off a guy who took them off to install a bull bar on his truck) I took the hooks to my dealer and had them install them. All they did was cut out the plastic where the hooks go and bolt them on, very simple.
Heres what my front end looks like after the plastic was cut out and installed the hooks. Plus the tow hooks give the front more looks instead of just plain. What ever you do, do not hook to your control arms anymore, thats going to cost you big time if it breaks!

Thanks for the info guys, i'm def. gonna get a set of hooks before I put myself in that kind of situation again. As a note, I had to be pulled from the front as a pond was behind me, but at least it didnt take that much "tug" to get me out. And thanks for the pic, now I know what I gotta do.

I got stuck on a Boat Lunch covered in Algae. This was cement turned solid green. Was so slippery I could hardly walk on it. Held onto the truck and trailer for support.
My F150 is a 1998. The truck in the pic looks much newer. Will this mod work for me?
Is there a place to buy the hooks new (other than dealer)?
Thank you.

Holy ****, that must have been scary. Your truck did not slip in obviously, but how did it not?

I was sliding backward down the ramp. I was trying to "poer brake" it forward. Helped a little, not much. I ended up getting pulled out by a 4WD Expedition. Luckily, I carry a 15' tow strap in my truck.
Yes, I was very nervous for a few minutes. I wondered how long my F150 would float before sinking...

What stopped it from sliding all the way in? Just floatation? Remarkable story bud.
