newbie looking for off road tech info

hi iam new to the forum and had a quick question
i am just getting interested in 4x4's and off roading
and was looking for some good sources of information about off roading, especially modifying my 1990 f150 suspension, how to choose tires and wheels etc. If anyone knows a good book or website that i could find to get started i would appreciate it. thanks

I like this book

I found Southern Guide to California Backroads & 4-wheel drive trails very useful. You may also try to find a offroad group to join and they could help you out. I don't plan to buy many aftermarkets parts for my F150 4 x 4 but you must have enough to be safe. I installed tow points in the front, the factory type. I installed the factory hitch and added a receiver that allows Dtype ring setup. I put all the factory skid plates under the truck, and yes I know after market is better but I'm a OEM person. One under the radiator, transfer case and fuel tank. I use Toyo tires which are Open Country 8 ply (265/75/16) with a spare the same size and same tire. I have shovel, pick, saw, hammers, jumper cables, oil with filter, air filters, wire, tape, first aid kit, food, clothes, lots of water (1 to 2 gallons per person per day), plywood in the back of the truck to protect the bed but also to help with truck, rope, straps, GPS, maps, phone, CB, chains for all four tires ect, ect....what I'm trying to tell you is be safe and also know your truck, make sure you know how to go into 4L, make sure you know were you are going and plan a trip, even if just for a few hours. I go to Anza Borrego and I have a great time, but always be ready for something to happen, the last 4 times out my son and I came across 1 person with a dead battery, 3 2wd stuck in the sand, and one person walking because his motorbike broke down.
