Talking OH Off road fun

I finally found a place to off road around here, and ironically, it's about 2minutes from my house. It's an old river basin area with some fields around it. I took a few pics of my truck and my buddy's Jeep. I'll take some more this weekend of me climbing this crazy hill made of shale Check out http://www.zing.com/album/?id=4294274557

Anyways, check out the picture pages on my web site for some Michigan dune action.

No, not an OSU fan here. Went there, and hated it. I grow soooo tired of all the Super Fans around here during football season. Sunbury is about 25 miles or so north of Ciolumbus, slowly becoming a suburb. I could never find a good trail without driving hours, and this weekend I was out driving down a road I always drive, and saw a clearing on the side of the road. Drove down it, and it's a big truck playground down there. Nice big river basin to drive in, let's you get up and drive on the sides at a fun angle, hills to climb, open field, treed paths, I love it! And it's only 2 minutes from my house Ichecked out your page and I desperately want to get up to the dunes there. I figure it's about a 5 hour drive from here. Let me know when you guys go next.

Scott, No plans yet on the next dune trip but I will let you know. Lots of camping area's around the Dunes if you're into that, also cabin rental ($50.00 a night, camp sites about $20.00 a night) Here's some more info about the area: www.oceana.net/silverlake/business.html

Take care,
Jim

I just got 285/75/16 on my otherwise unmodified 97 F150. I have not taken the truck off roading yet and would like to go sometime. I am in West Lafayette In right now but would make a trip out to your new found playing grounds in Sunbury. Was wondering if you think that place would be too tough for a first timer. Thanks, Klaibs

Oh not at all. I've taken lots of first timers there. It's not this monster course by any means, but a cool place to play around on some hills, ditches, and drive at a 45 degree angle. lol. I have to get my steering realigned Monday as well as get my 4HI and 4LO running again. I either blew a vacuum pump or disconnected a hose. Anyhoo, I can get in and out of this place in 2WD if necessary. Let me know, I'll get a couple others to go. One guy is insane and has no respect for nature lol. Bring your rod if you fish too. If I get 4 back on the floor, we may go out next weekend.

Cool

Dang, now it looks like I am going to have to think about moving south out of Minnesota where people know how to have fun with their trucks...lol. It seems like I am the only one up here that will get the truck out and have fun with it instead of staying on the pavement.
Damn, wish that Ohio wasn't so far away for a weekend, as it sounds like fun. Maybe have to start considering a F150 Offroad Event for those of us brave enough to get the trucks dirty....you can count me in on something like that.

I've been toying with the idea of a large regional off road get rally. I just don't know where a place is large enough and safe enough. There's a few around here, but they are scarey places where a winch is needed. The place I go isn't large, but it has lots of terrain styles, plus it's the lake and by my house which has the boat I'd love for the Michigan guys to do another Dune Rally, I'd be game for that. I'm going to check out this National Forest here soon that rumor has it has over 100 miles of off road terrain.

Well, it all depends if I can get my 4 wheel drive functioning by then. I was going to take the truck into the shop this morning, but was running late. We amy have to postpone to the following weekend if that's not a problem. Plus that would give us some time to get a few others together if interested. But as of now, I'm not much fun in 2wheel drive.

MrScot, wondering if you got your four wheel drive working again. I'll be free this weekend if you want to take it out for a little test drive. Eric

Unfortunately no I had to buy a new lawn tractor instead. Always something else for me to spend my money except my truck. It'll probably be a couple of weeks until I get around to it, but trust me, the moment I do, I'll be letting you guys know. I want to check out that National Forest, and maybe we can plan a small group trip there.

I would be in for a National Forest drive offroad if it wasn't so far away.
A buddy of mine with a 94 F150 showed me a place to go last Friday night, and we went back in there, and completely submerged the front of the truck....everything was covered with mud...including the K&N Air Filter, guess I have to be a little more careful next time. Good area in the city, with some good ruts and mud...just wish that it would rain to get even more mud....wish that I could post pics of my truck from Saturday before the wash job.....
If anyone can post pics, I will send them to you as soon as I get them developed!!!!
