Question Side steps

Wondering if Westin side steps will bend in offroading situations. I have a friend that told me i should fabricate my own in a machine shop and then either weld them to the frame or bolt them on. He has a Toyota Tacoma that is pretty well setup for offroading and he would never recommend putting side steps on if i was going to be doing any off roading. I have the factory fiberglass sidesteps on right now and i know those will shatter on a rock or what ever. Let me know any experiences with the Westin side steps or with any side step. Thanks, Klaibs

Your friend is right! Some trails do not allow such things...

I would suggest a nerf bar that bolts to the frame like WAAG, I think Grizzly makes some frame mounted steps too.

Thumbs up

I have a black powdercaoted pair of nerfs that were fabricated by a company in Florida called [ Sterling Equipment ]. I'm very pleased with the looks and their strength. I've been offraoding myself and dropped the weight of the truck on them and they flexed but did not bend.

On a similiar occasion a budy of mine had a set of the Westin's and he dropped his truck off in a hole/ditch or something, the nerfs bent up into the body causing bad damage.

I paid about the same price if not cheaper including shipping as he did for his Westin's. I can't find my receipt at the moment. Mine came as a bolt-on application, but I had a friend weld them for me.

Oh! almost forgot, here's Sterling's URL: [ http://www.sterling-equipment.com/ ]
