4x4 question
This may sound dumb, but ill ask anyhow. I was talking to a friend of mine about four wheel drive, and he was saying that even in 4lowrange all four tires do not spin at once. His expierence is an 80's model bronco.
In my 98 f-150 when i put it in 4low, i am almost positive that i get all 4 wheels spinning at the same time. In 4high, the front end is selective though.
My question is: is my friend wrong, or is the f-150 special or has the previous owner of my truck done aftermarket work?
Thanks for the help.

Mudcat,
On the F-150 the T-case is a part time unit. When it is engaged it sends power to both differentials regardless of weather it is in 4Hi or lo. What each differential does with the power from the drive shaft depends on what kind it is. From the factory the front is open. Meaning that the wheel with the most traction may stick and not turn. The rear differential has two options; Open like the front or the Traction-Lok. The Traction-Lok has a clutch system that divides the power to each wheel till the friction of the clutches is over come then it acts like an open differential.
