Which winch?

I've always heard that to winch yourself, you need a winch rated at 2.5 times the weight of your vehicle, is this true? What size winch would I need for my truck? I have a 97 SuperCab 4x4 F-150, the GVWR is 6750. Thanks, y'all.

It is more like 1½ times the weight of your truck. An 8000 or 9000 lbs will do fine.

I have a Warn XD9000i and it does just fine. With the line doubled up I can pull 2 x 9000 lbs. The nice thing about these winches is that they share the same mounting bolt location. Warn, Superwinch, Ramsey, MileMarker.
