Got stuck
well guys and gals, I wish i had a camera with me at the time but I will tell the story anyway. A buddy of mine jsut lifed his dodge and we took it out to the local sand hills. We saw what looked like an oil top road(and for those of you who dont know what an oil top road is it is where they soak the ground with oil so it will harden) well anyway the road wasnt hard at all it was soft and to make it worse it was about a 50 to 60 degree angle. When i tryed to back down the side of the road gave out and fell from under my truck. Need less to say I slid down about 6ft. and i stoped when my truck got high centerd. Every wheel was burried except for the drivers side rear which was not touching and sand at all. We tryed using the dodge it got stuck. We called a buddy that had a 9000lb ramsey winch it pulled the dodge out but it couldnt pull me out. So we called the dreaded 4x4 back-hoe out and at this time it was about 10:30pm well he had hell but he got me out the it took my ford, my buddies dodge, and the winch to pull the back-hoe out. All for the price of $700. What a night.
All I can say is bummer
Well at least you got home with your truck and no one was hurt, it could have been a lot worse.
Just this last weekend I towed out a 2x4 (open rear differential) ranger that took a wrong turn and was doing a 3 point turn to go the other way on a fairly narrow road with 3-4 foot dirt cliffs on each side of the road.
Well he managed to get his ranger stuck across the road (think of the letter I on it's side). Basically his back bumper was completly against one wall and his front bumper was almost completly against the other wall.
It would have been easier if I could get to the other side of his truck but again the 3-4 walls on each side of the road prohibited that. So I ended up hooking my tow strap to the front behind the tire to drag it out (so it pointed strait).
I couldn't get an angle on it after moving it more than a few feet so he connected the tow strap in front of his tire, I pulled it out some more and then.... wow! now I have 2 tow ropes!!!! He put it on a sharp piece of metal.
So finally I got under there and hooked it on to the front bumper and practically pulled that off but it was enough for him to be able to go home. And that is the most importiant part.
A few things they learned that day:
1. Don't ever drive ALONE off roading!
2. Always have water with you (they had to walk almost a mile in the desert, about 85 degrees that day, to get back to where we were)
3. Don't turn around a 2x4 ranger with a open differential around on a road like that!!!
Oh yea and I wish you had a camera too. That would have been a good "stuck" picture...
