4.6L gear change
I have an 97 F150 and i put some 20" wheels on it. The overall tire diameter is 32.5". Could anyone tell me how much rpm it will turn if I installed 4.10 gears? If anyone has put 4.10 gears in could you please give me some insight on the performance before and after. Also will a superchips programmer recalibrate my speedometer? Someone siad it only works on 99 and up models. Thanks for the help!
the 4.10 gears will give more kick in the pants feel and higher revs at highway speeds, most people that i know or have talked to think 4.10 was a little too far 3.73 always seems to be the best, as far as the speedometer you will need to pull the sensor out of the trans after figuring out how far the speedo is, replace the gear on the end of the sensor, rule of thumb is 1 tooth for every 3-4mile an hour that it is off
Hey Ncracing6x,
I put 265/60/R18's on my truck, height is 30". I had the 3.08 rear and that absolutely killed my power. But my power is back with the install of my 4.10's. Let me say from experience, do not go any higher geared tham 4.10's. If I were you I would go 4.30's. I have the rpms you will run if you have the 4r70w behind your 4.6.
-------------------- 3.73 ------------4.10 --------------4.30
At 55mph ---------1506rpm --------1655--------------1736
At70mph-----------1917rpm --------2107------------- 2209
You have to correct your speedo with the gear in the tranny as previously stated by Tea3tx.
By the way my truck seems to use no more gas than I was when I was lugging my truck with 3.08's. I don't know for sure because my mileage reading is really inaccurate. I am ordering the tuner for my truck, mine is a 99, you are right tuner only works on 99 and up. Good luck and lets see a pic of you truck with the new wheels.

Here is something you might find interesting too. Supposing you have 3.08 or 3.31.
As you are now with 32.5 inch tires.
----------------3.08-------------------3.31
At 55 ----------1243-----------------1336
At 70-----------1583-----------------1701
Are these graphs easy enough to read?
