I know, but...

I know the tags on the rear axle hold valuable information, but I don't have the translator.

So, does anyone have the translator or know where to find one?

What kinda info do you need? I don't have any access to a translator, I am just curious. I thought all the tag had that was 'valuable' was the gear ratio. I always thought the rest was just the date of manufacture. What vital info does it hold?

The top line of the tag will have a code # (eg.: S187C). This # will denote how many spline axle. Ratio, ring gear dia. & what type of truck this axle was intended for. Breakdown of this code is usually only obtainable by FOMOCO or dealers.

Bottom line of tag will have a series of #'s starting @ left (eg.: 3L55 8 8 5B01). 3L55 would represent a 3.55 ratio. L represent L/S. 8 8 for ring gear diameter. 5B01 would represent date of assemby for this axle. In this case would be: 2/01/95.

5 for 1995.
B for February
01 for the 1t. day of the month.

I hope this will answer some of your questions.
