Swapping out the whole rear end.

Ok, i have a few questions and i have not been able to find answers by the search (yea right heard that one before).

As far as all the bolts matching up, can i take the whole rear end out of another 97/98 F150 and bolt it onto my truck (i have a 97 F150 2 WD).

Would it matter if the truck i got the rear end from was a 4WD or a 2WD.

Any help would be great.

It would be by far easier....

to replace with the same axle, than to try to morf in a differant one

Cost ?

F150,

Can I ask why you want to swap the whole rear? I would think it would be less expensive to do a gear swap and add a powertrax locker to the rear end.

I had an old 83 Bronco as a toy. It had 4" lift and 33's. I swapped the gears to 4.10's and added power trax lockers front and rear. If I remember the approximate cost per axle was as follows:

Gears 4.10's: $150 (Richmond)
Powertrax $300
Labor and parts $200

So for about $650 to $700 you'd have a bullet proof setup. I would guess that swapping out a whole axle would be as much if not more Dollars in toal, because youd have to have it aligned as well.
