Leaking Transfer case easy fix?
I have recently developed a drip from the transfer case. I suspect it is coming from the over where the torx bolts secure the cover. It this as easy as losening the torx bolts, scrape old gasket material, and resealing then rebolting? Or does it have to be removed and serviced? I can't find any diagrams on Alldata or the repair manual.
It is on a 1999 F-150 automatic shift 5.4L

I am not for sure what model T/C would be under a late model F150. I suspect possibly a Borg Warner 1345? If so, I wouldn't advise trying to reseal it in the vehicle, if it is leaking in the middle (where the two case halves are bolted together).
Most Borg Warner T/C's have an oil pick-up tube and oil pump on the mainshaft output shaft. This area along with the shifter linkage can be easily damaged. Have You checked the vent tube on the T/C? Perhaps the small vent on the end of the hose has fallen off; or is clogged-up?

The trasfer case is a Borg Warner 4406. It appears to be leaking from the cover that is attached to the rear part of the case with Torx bolts, above the drain plug. (The cover faces the rear of the truck).

I would consult a dealer on this matter, even if truck is out of the 3 yr./36,000 mile warranty. Could be a faulty casting in the rear T/C half.
The squeeky wheel usually is the one that get the grease. What do you have to lose?
I recently had warranty work done on our 1999 S/C. It was over 1 1/2 years out of the 3/36 zone. Seat belt was replaced @ no charge.
I still would not attempt removing the rear case have of the T/C. The 4406 is a Cousin to the other Borg Warner models that are used in Ford applications.
