My truck came with an open differential 3.08 axle, with drum brakes. I could put a trak-lok carrier in and some better gears and probably install them myself. But if I could just swap in a whole axle from the junkyard with 3.55s or 3.73s and limited slip it would be easier, and if it came with disc brakes that would be a bonus.

I have a 4.6L so i've got the 8.8. What other trucks could I swap in an axle from? I don't know if any of the 8.8 F150s have disc brakes, but I think all explorers do?

If I end up just adding a limited slip carrier, will the mustang one work? do I just have to switch out the spider gears to make it work with the 31 spline f150 axles? I know the mustang axles are 28 spline.

I'm new to this, just got the truck a few days ago, so excuse me if I'm wrong on any points.
