Binding when turning in 4wd.

Is it normal for the front tires to "bind" when turning?
When I'm in 4wd the front tires feel like they are binding when trying to turn. I'm not even turning at the maximum.
I was just wondering if this is a sign of something about to go bad on the truck. Its a 98 F150 5.4 w/50,000 miles.

What you are describing sounds pretty much the norm. You can typically feel it and hear it when turning with all 4 locked in.

you can break the front end if you try turning on a non slippery surface. these trucks have part time 4 wheel drive which is designed only for slippery surfaces like mud, snow, and loose gravel.

if you try to turn on pavement it will bind up really bad.
