OEM or Eaton Posi
The pinion seal on my 8.8 rear end got chewed up while playing off road by a barb wire that got wraped around the driveline. As a result I lost all the lube and destroyed the rear end. I am getting the whole rear end re built and I want to know your opinions on going with an Eaton posi or using OEM.
Recently, I installed an Eaton-Posi in my 1994 Ranger. So Far I love it. The 2.3L doesn't have enough torgue to really have fun with the Eaton.
Presently I have (3) Ford trucks. One has an Eaton-Posi. One has an Auburn Pro series and 99 F-150 has OEM trac-loc. I like the trac-loc the least. When the trac-lock fails, I definetly will install a Eaton-Posi or Auburn Pro.
What makes You believe the low lube failure caused your L/S to now be junk? You did have OEM track-loc, didn't You? I have seen alot of low lube failures only take out the R/P and brg's. It depends on how long diff. was operated with low lube.

Good to hear that the eaton is a good unit. I was playing in the mud and sand doing a lot of doughnuts pushing when I started to hear a loud kind of howl and I could smell burned oil. That is what prmpted me to stop and look at my truck there was oil sprayed all over the under side of the the truck by the diff. Got her towed home and today I opened her up and it was not pretty.
Got the Eaton posi installed and man what a differene in traction. With stock I would have to really get on the gas when going around corners to get the tires to bark. Now I have to try to take it easy to stop them. On wet roads I can feel a lot more positive lock up faster off the line and in the dirt I have a lot less slip. Its almost like I have lockers nowwhen compared to the stock L/S in the rear end. If any of you guys are doing any work on youe differentials upgrade to the eaton.
