Question changing ratio's

Quick question ?
Will changing to higher ratio improve my truck's capacity to carry around my little camper (boat ,etc ) , about 2000
pds . I have a 98' 4.2 l , 4x4 , single cab . I seem to die when having to go up a hill . I know that the six is a little! undersized to
be carrying around stuff , but what can I do. Can't afford to change, now . Now do I have to change the whole diff , or is just the gears inside ? . I am assuming that the tag on the diff will tell me which ratio I have .

Thanks for any info
Eli

If you have 3.08 and change to 3.55 or 3.73, this should help your towing capicity immensely. Check the axle code on door and metal tag on diff. cover before making a decision.
