Considering new gears. Gotta few questions.
02XLT, it seems like every mod is more expensive in this area than other places in the country. I read about guys in Fla. & Tx. getting true duals on their trucks for a little over $300 !
WLF, read your old posts and I am hoping I can get away with a 23 tooth gear as well I'll be off by a bit though cuz my tires are only 28 3/4" tall. Every one I spoke to claimed that the gears would be silent but It would'nt be the first time a mechanic told an untruth.
I'll see after a short while just how quiet though. Followed a link from a search to another place that sold a 23 tooth gear. The said theirs was only good for 20,000 miles becuase of the high count of teeth. Any mention of that from other places you checked ?
Dudley, the place I finally settled on is in Woodbridge NJ, thats in Middlesex county. E-mail me if you want directions.
What happened to KYFordFreak? I feel like we might have hijacked his thread.
I hope he does'nt mind us rambling on in here.
I'll try to keep posting any updates.

I'm still around. Hijack away at least someone is getting something done.
I've spent the last week working on the foglight mod (still no info found) and somehow I managed to screw-up my cruise control. Now I gotta figure this out, no crusie sucks. Plus my dang frontend vibration is back. I'm almost sick of this truck.

LE PEW,
There was no mention of how long the gear will last. In posts on the Mustang web site they do say the high tooth count does make the gear somewhat fragile.
Keep me posted on the noise. Mine doesn't make much but I can hear it. The guy who installed it took it apart again and checked the pattern. He showed me it was just like the recommended pattern so I am not much worried. I have just a very slight high-pitched hum at highway speeds.
Do take your time breaking in the gears. There is a good article on the Randy's ring and pinion web site on how to break-in the gears. You probably don't want to use synthetic gear lube until after the break-in since they recommend you change the gear lube at least one time.
Have fun and I know you will love the gears.

Update: I got the 4.30 gears installed but do not have the speedo calibrated yet. So far I'm real happy with the swap, acceleration seems effortless now and I am not even using more than a 1/4 of the gas pedal. Although I am still in the break in process I really happy with the noise factor. The gears are really quiet but my exhaust seems to sound different now?
I will give a better and more detailed review of my impressions in a seperate thread once the speedo is corrected and I put more miles on with the new gears. As of this moment though, I am all smiles !
One question, my owners manual specifies "high performance gear oil" for the axle and makes no mention of either synthetic or a particular viscosity/weight. I'm not worried cuz the mechanic used Amsoil along with the friction modifier but I'm surprised that the owners manual was'nt more specific about this. Any of you with the same year, engine, trans and 3.55 LS differential have the same description in your owners manual ?? Any input is welcome.

LE PEW,
Mine called for 70w-90w gear lube with friction modifier in the 3:55 LS unit. I used Moble 1 but did not use friction modifier since I changed to the no slip rear.
Glad to hear everything is going well. Keep me informed with the gears, especially the noise. Mine are starting to bother me. I think it is because it is getting cold here and with the windows up I can hear them more. If yours remain quiet, then I may replace mine in the spring. Next time I will be sure to buy the gears from the one who installs them. This time I got the "noise is the other guys fault" response.

LE PEW,
Well after reading of your success I spoke to a Ford Mechanic that I recently became friends with. He feels sure he can adjust out the noise I am getting from my gears. He is only going to charge $100. which for a complete set up is a real deal. I am going to have him do it this weekend or next. I will let you know how it goes.

Good luck to you, I hope the mechanic can set them up to your liking. Even though I've only put around a hundred or so break in miles on the gears they do seem to be getting smoother. I hope it continues to progress this way for me.
Please do keep us updated on your situation as well.
