Question What is this Clunk?!?

I have a 1999 ext cab 4x4 f150.

When I turn corners....I hear a clunk and feel a bump under my foot on drivers side. It seems to be worse when cornering harder or tighter.

What could this be????

You aren't the guy in the "Call me Crazy" post who runs over curbs, are you?

No.

I think it may have something to do with the torsion bars...I am not an expert with them.

Did you break out the grease gun yet? A little grease for the front end has had good results for a lot of clunk, bump, and tough turning issues.

Actually, I have a 1999.........there are two grease nipple on the truck!

Fricken ford and their non-greasable ball and universal joints!

There is a body mount right under your foot. Check and make sure the bolt didn't snap or loosen up for some reason. I know that when I installed my body lift, I had to tighten up this bolt pretty good to keep it from clunking on turns.

Also these trucks are known to blow ball joints early in life.

Thanks! I will check the body mount....it feels like it could be just that.

Ya, stupid non-greasable items.....they will eventually get replaced with MOOG!

Smart man to replace with Moog. I sell TRW chassis parts all day long but when it came to my truck I went with Moog for my balljoints because they are the only greasable ones I could find. It was not a quality issue, it was just a wanted something I know was greased enough. Now I know they have plenty of grease (even popped the boot off on the bottom because of too much, fixed that) Even got them to price match the TRW's within a few dollars.
When I do tie rods I might go Moog as well. They came highly recommended by two Ford techs and personal friend mechanics.
TRW is good, IMO, I've good thing about Spicer products as well.

It is widely known that MOOG is simply the best ball joints/tie rod ends around. TRW is pretty good stuff as well.

As for u-joints.....dana/spicer are number one!
