Vibration in steering wheel

Today I noticed a light vibration in the steering wheel I just had the tires rotated and balanced last week so it has to be something else any thoughts on what it could be.

I had this problem with a ranger and found it was a bad U-joint. That was after I spent $500 on new tires thinking they were bad.

If its just when braking then suspect warped rotors. If its at a more or less constant speed then maybe lost a wheel weight.

the place that did the rotationand balance didn't set the balancing machine low enough. It needs to be set to 1/4 ounce or less. They set them higher because it makes the job easier.

also if you haven't rotated in a long time the tire that are now on the front are a little cupped and will vibrate for a while until they wear off the cupping.

good luck-

It sounds like you did not notice the vibration until after a few days.
It could be as simple as one of the wheel weights came off. That can happen.

I notice it at highway speeds 60 and up.

As far as I know, on the spin balancers we have, we have no sensitivity settings. At least none externally. The weights it calls for start as low a 1/4 ounce.

I would have them re-balanced.

what kind of tires do you have?

before I got my BFG's I had Firestone HT's (Stock on the truck)and no matter what I did I could not get them to stop shaking at around 60-65! After countless re-balancing including $150.00 balancing on a road force balancer (Paid by dealer) I just gave up until it was time to buy new tires!

Now the truck is smooth as glass!

Good luck-

The type of tires is a good bet also. I thought from your first post that you had these on for a while and only noticed the vibration after you had them rotated.

Goodyear wranglers are also ones that can be a pain to balance.

The tires are BFG Long Trails T/A's they have about 20,000 miles on them and have been rotated about every 5,000 miles so far.

Have the balance checked again, BFG are usually a very good tire.

I have the long trails and they are very smooth. Were the tires smooth before this last rotation?

When I was having trouble with my firestones my dealer discovered my idler arm was bad, they replaced it and it got rid of a lot of vibration.

good luck-
