speedometr adjustment

I have a 1998 Larait 4x4 that came with 255/70/16s. I would like to upgrade to 265/75/16 which are the same diameter as the 265/70/17s which were an option. The question is can I simply change the speedopmeter drive gear to compensate, and will this be a stock Ford part? How hard is it to change?

My 98 4.6 4x4 3.55 came with a 19 tooth gear. I have the 265/70/17 tires. 31.6 appox OD. Since your origonal tireswere smaller you will need to pull the VSS and see howmany teeth are on the stock gear. Simple task. VSS located on tail shaft of tranny or transfer case if 4by. One bolt and a connector to remove and it pulls right out. Gear is held on by a spring loaded clip. Ford makes up to a 21 tooth gear.
