Aluminum drive shaft?
Well, so much for the excitement. Goes to show ya what I know about automobiles. I don't know whether to be glad that I have an alum or be disappointed and wait for it to break and replace with steel(battle ship type). I guess, just drive her for a couple of years and trade her in.
Hey Gang!
I’m curious, am I just imagining it or am I really looking at an aluminum drive shaft?
I’ve read on some mustang magazine the benefits of lighter drive shaft over steel from more horsepower to limited vibration.
Just happen to crawl under the “Steed” to clean her undercarriage after a trip to the beach and happen to notice it.
Is this on all Y2K F-150s or just a mistake? My brother's ’99 Sport has steel.
Any thoughts?

My 99' Sport has a steel one as well. I went to the local dealer this Sat. / Sun., and crawled under each and every 2000 F-150 XLT 4X2 & 4X4's on the lot, and they all had a steel one as well. I hop emy 2000 will have an Al. shaft. Hsven't seen it yet.

I have steel. My friend with a 97 F-250LD, 5.4 with auto had aluminum until he had a 2 speed gear vendor added to the transmission. The new drive shaft is steel. Bad part is he left the aluminum shaft with the install shop. He could have sold it or kept it if he wanted to transfer the gear vendor overdrive to another vehicle.

My 2000 F150 4x4 Sport has a steel drive shaft and I'm happy with that. My 98 F150 XLT 2WD had an aluminum and I had nothing but problems. They couldn't get it to balance, it was shaking the sh*t out of the whole truck. Thats why I got the 2000.

Thought I'd rekindle the steel vs. aluminum driveshaft debate. It looks like aluminum is better than steel???
"Along with the aforementioned engine upgrades, Lightning's more potent acceleration can be attributed to a new rear axle ratio. A change to 3.73:1 from 3.55:1 contributes to its eye-popping launch. To better handle the new rear axle ratio's increased driveline load and rotational speed, a more substantial 4.5-inch aluminum driveshaft replaces the 3.5-inch steel shaft. "
