Aluminum drive shaft?
Hey Gang!
I’m curious, am I just imagining it or am I really looking at an aluminum drive shaft?
I’ve read on some mustang magazine the benefits of lighter drive shaft over steel from more horsepower to limited vibration.
Just happen to crawl under the “Steed” to clean her undercarriage after a trip to the beach and happen to notice it.
Is this on all Y2K F-150s or just a mistake? My brother's ’99 Sport has steel.
Any thoughts?

'00 XL flareside sprcab, 5 spd, 4.2 V6, 3.55 grs, factory cab steps ("nerf bars"), graphite cloth 60/40 split bench seats, 255/70/16s, Mcgard tailgate lock, K&N air filter, Mobil1 05-W30 tri-synth.
More upgrades (pay-check permitting)

I have steel. My friend with a 97 F-250LD, 5.4 with auto had aluminum until he had a 2 speed gear vendor added to the transmission. The new drive shaft is steel. Bad part is he left the aluminum shaft with the install shop. He could have sold it or kept it if he wanted to transfer the gear vendor overdrive to another vehicle.

Thought I'd rekindle the steel vs. aluminum driveshaft debate. It looks like aluminum is better than steel???
"Along with the aforementioned engine upgrades, Lightning's more potent acceleration can be attributed to a new rear axle ratio. A change to 3.73:1 from 3.55:1 contributes to its eye-popping launch. To better handle the new rear axle ratio's increased driveline load and rotational speed, a more substantial 4.5-inch aluminum driveshaft replaces the 3.5-inch steel shaft. "
