3.55 to 4.56, what do i need?
What do I need to upgrade from a 3.55 to a 4.10 or 4.56? I need to know everything I would need including price, im trying to order these soon but im not sure about everything i need to order.
well gears fo course, then you could order an installation kit from summit or jegs that includes all the bearings, crush sleeve, gaskets, and all the otherstuff. not sure if it includes the oil, but you can get that from a auto parts store or even from ford. give summit a call, and ask one of the techs what you will need.
If going to 4.56 ratio, You will need a special differential spider pin. The 4.56 ring gear is much thicker that 3.55 & 4.10. Stock spider pin will not pass in and out of carrier (without modificatio of pin or purchasing a pin that has a flat spot milled on one side).
Also, be sure you get a differntial side brg. shim kit.

You can go with 4.30 gears with the orriginal carrier and pin (see my signature). Also check Randy's ring and pinion website for information and install kits. My Yukon gears are nice but expect a little humming for these taller gears. Mine has improved to the point I do not notice it anymore unless I really listen for it.
