Post 4WD Chirping, is this normal?

Sorry if this is dumb, but i never had a 4wd before. Took my new truck to the supermarket parking lot and put it in 4H. When making wide turns, all sounds good. But when I make a tight turn, the motion is jerky and it feels weird. Is this just because of the differential shifting from left to right or what. What a really need to know, is this normal or should I take in for service.

normal in tight turns. even when the roads are bad, you should manuver in 2wd in a parking lot.

I'm glad you asked....I have been wondering the same thing.
I put it in 4 hi just to see if it did feel any different... again, feels fine when the the wheels are straight. When I turn the wheel, not even tight turn, motion is jerky and just sounds strange like something in the front end is about to snap...and I really don't want that to happen

The transfer case doesn't have a differential in it so front and rear drive shafts MUST turn at the same speed. When turning, the front wheels travel farther than the rear. In other words the front drive shaft wants to turn faster than the rear and you experience driveline binding. The only way you can keep moving is if the tires slip. This slipping of the tires is what you're feeling.

Avoid putting your truck into 4WD on pavement because it will really strain your driveline when turning.
