Gear selection help/advice
As you can see from my mods I have a 3.55LS. I would like to get some better low end grunt and was considering new gears, while keeping some drivability (at highway speeds). Should I get the 3.73 or 3.92? I feel that the 4.10 might be to extreme for what I'm looking for. Also what kind of costs are we looking at for installation?
Another question is how does the gears compare to the superchip?
Any advice or information would be appreciated. Thanks

Check out comments on https://www.f150online.com/f150board...ML/000851.html - with 4.10's and 17" package, I am turning 2100 rpm at 60 mph in OD, so if anything my drivability is better.
There are no 3.92's for the 9.75" axle only 3.30, 3.55, 3.73, 4.10 or 4.56.
As far as the gears vs chip: the chip increases power but the gears make the best use of the power that you have, letting the engine get closer to its torque peak in normal driving. Changing to 4.10's made my truck feel like it has an extra 25 hp even though it doesn't.
Cost seems to be 600 - 800 installed.

A change of .25 or so is not very noticeable or cost effective. Going to 4.10s from 3.55s is a great change. There is plenty of top end for them with the OD gearing. I got a quote of $550???

I guess I've been used to crusing at 70+ at 2100 rpms, and seeing 60 at 2100 spooked me a bit. But in the overall picture, not too bad.
Max..Let me ask you a question. How's the 4.10's when it's wet out? Do you find yourself spinning out (like the gas is too touchy)?
Ian...Why no 3.92 gears? Just curious, it seems to be a popular gearing.
Thanks again for your input guys. I think I'm trying to scrap together enough for a superchip first, and then save for the new gears (man I hate having to be patient)
I'll post whenever I get something.
