which ones really depends on your truck and what you do with it.

I would say on average that the 4.10's are more than enough. Lately I have been reading here how everyone wants lower and lower gears to get power. These days trucks are hauling less weight with more power than they have ever had. We forget that not too long ago, trucks were routinely pushed beyond rated capacities with only straigh 6 engines.

Also don't forget that at some point you will want to take this truck on the freeway, in which case I would argue against 4.56 gears.

i have 4:10s with 35s and i am happy. i think 4:56 would be too low a gear for daily driving unless u have bigger tires.

What i had in mind was 1/4 mile perfomance and I drive it to work but it is only 9 miles so freeway speed isnt realy at the top of my priority list. the tire size is 295-45-18 I have a 5 spd trans with 3.55 gears I thought I had 3.73 but i read the axel tag and it was 3.55s. so maybe 4.56 might be to low???

Mr2X75,
I ordered 4.30's from Randy's ring and pinion. I will be having them installed as soon as they arrive which should be about tuesday. I FINALLY found a good installer here in Baltimore who will install them and my Powertrax no slip.
I have read where you have to watch what size gears. The higher gears also have a smalled pinion and this becomes the weak spot. Go to Randy's web page and read all of his tech articles. They will help you make a good decission.
If you can hold off for 10 days or two weeks, I will let you know how the 4.30 are and give you some idea how they are on the highway. I have 17 inch performance tires (see my signature) that are 31 inch high.
I found the web site for you, go here-
