Post changing rear axle

I have an idea of maybe swapping out my stock open 3.55 geared axle for a 3.73 LS. Does anyone know if this was available in 97 and up trucks? If so, will it have any effect on the computer? I am planning this at the same time I am chaning stock 235/70/16's to 265/75/16's.

You'll have the 8.8" axle so there are all sorts of options available to you. The factory ratio's were 3.08, 3.31, 3.55, 3.73.

The difference between 3.55 and 3.73 is not much, you might look at 4.10's instead. This will compensate for the bigger, heavier wheels and tires.

The new tires will be about 9% larger than the old tires and 3.73's only give about 5% more leverage (4.10's give 15% more).

As far as the computer goes, you can change the gear on the VSS and that will correct the speedo and the computer.
