rear disk breaks?

I have a 2000 f150 4x4 off road pkg, tow pkg, 5.4 l, auto.

I noticed that I have rear disk breaks and was wondering why. I thought ford hasn't switched yet. I heard from some people that the f150 with the 7700 lb tow pkg is sometimes referred to as f250 light duty and it comes with 3.73 rear end, disk breaks, tranny cooler, and the big 100 auto tranny. mine has the H9 code so it should have the 3.55 rear.

can anybody enlighten me as to what I have? I don't have the owner's manual and vin deconding isn't helping.

Thumbs up Sounds like mine.

I've got a 2000, 5.4 auto with towing package. It's got the larger R100 tranny and disc brakes all the way around. If it was a 7700 package, there would be an emblem on the tailgate and I'm pretty sure you'd have 7 lug wheels. Hope this helps.

I have a '99 F150 XLT with the #7700. With that you get rear disc brakes, heavy duty cooling, 16" rims, bigger alternator, and either 355 open, 355ls, or 373's. Some get the 100 tranny and some don't. In addition the first 99's came with the 7 lug wheels but no more. I think you also get and extra leaf in your rear leaf springs.

Good Luck!

Peace-

Starting in 2000 all F150 XLT and Lariats came with rear disc brakes and 4 wheel ABS as standard. This was optional on the lesser trims.

Unfortunately it's 3-channel ABS...Thus the one-tire skid on panic stops....DOH!

Does that hold true for the older trucks with supposedly 4wheel ABS where front is disc/rear is drum? It would make sense while I feel one wheel sort of lock-up and hear the tire squeel in panic stops.

Bought my 99 new and ordered 4 wheel ABS so that I could get rea Disks. Didn't really want the ABS but in 99 it was the only way to get the 4 wheel disks.

Was 4 wheel ABS an option or standard in 2000? If std then that's why yu get 4 wheel disks.

I presume it's the same for them, after all I have 4 disc brakes, with 4 wheel ABS on my 2000 F-150, and it's 3 channel. I don't know why they would downgrade as they progessed in model years. Of course, I'm not complaining, I presume that the 3 channel works just fine. In actuality, I did not become aware of it until I had my differential cover opened up. I was curious as to why there were two ABS sensors up front (one going to each front wheel), but only an ABS excitor ring on the rear axle. Then I thought of all the panic stops I had where one rear wheel screetched, and then 2 + 2 finally ='d 4.

Good points, never really thought about it. That is just how mine is setup except with the drums. One sensor per wheel up front then the ABS sensor on the rear diff housing.

I just traded my 99 F250 light duty for a 02 F150 #7700. They are the same truck. The #7700 gets you a heavier frame, heavier shocks, heavier springs, heavy duty battery/alternator, heavy duty cooling system, tow package including tranny cooler, r100 tranny and the 10.25" rear end with 7 lug wheels. I think the 3.55's are standard. but you can get whatever ratio you want.

Mine was built with the R70W and the 1.42" radiator. I am quite happy with the gear ratios -- but wish the torque converter would stay locked with the throttle open wider than it does (it unlocks when going up hills using the cruise control).

Ditto on the TC unlocking.

Wouldn't it be great if somebody would come out with an inexpensive tranny controller which could easily allow you to dial in new shift points and TC lock and unlock requirements.

Check with some of the super duty guys and on thier boards. If I am not mistaken some of them have wired in a toggle switch to control TC lock/unlock.
