think about it this way . . . you will get a 15% increase in "leverage" by going to 3.55s . . .but it will cost you some change . . my last truck had 3.08s and my new one has 3.55s . . .big difference in throttle response at highway speeds . . .

Cool

.25 or so change is not very noticeable or cost effective (consider a tire change); .50 or so is noticeable; more than that becomes very noticeable. When changing gears, it's a good time to factor is what future tire height you prefer, and compensate for that too.

look at your gear change this way . .do you have a multi-geared bicycle? you know that when you gear down you have to pedal faster to get the same road speed but also that the pedaling is easier and you can accelerate easier . . the same is true for your truck by going to 3.55s . .your engine rpm is higher for a given road speed .. 2 advantages; you are higher on your rpm band so the motor has more power and the "pedaling is easier" so it can accelerate easier . . . i thought the difference between my 3.08 truck and my 3.55 truck was substantial . . .remember that this will cost you some dough and that your speedometer will have to be re-calibrated . .

Hey 97 Triton,
I would recommend going to 4.10s if you are looking for better acceleration.
But if you have your heart set on 3.55s I have a complete set that came out of my truck that I will sell you pretty cheap. They are in mint condition and I even have some new bearings left over from my install kit that I will throw in.
Let me know if you are interested or you can e-mail me at
