Question Shudder in Rear End?

Lately, I've noticed a slight shudder, I believe from the rear end of the truck. This only occurs when I'm turning sharply while accelerating from a stop. After the truck is up to about 5 mph (halfway through turns), the shudder disappears. It doesn't occur when the truck is pointed straight - only when turning.

Has anyone experienced this?

Thanks,

Hey Venom, I had the same thing happen to my truck on this past sunday while towing the horse trailer. I was making a left at a stop sign and experienced a shudder while taking off, I have not been able to duplicate it, well the truck is in the bodyshop right now(DAMN DEER!!!!) I was leaning more towards it coming from the rear end too, because I have the LS and I figured it may have just been the clutchs, actually hoping it was the clutches and a onetime thing and not the torque converter.

BTW, you have great taste in color and trucks LOL!!! Check my sig.

Sounds like the clutch packs in the limited-slip differential. Have you serviced your diff. & not added friction modifier? Do you notice the shudder when diff. is good & warmed up? Usually, the clutch pack make no noise until the diff. fluid is warmed up.

The truck (equipped with the 3.55 LS) only has 13,000 miles on it, and the diff lube has never been touched.

The shudder is apparent from the time I start driving the truck. I haven't driven for extended periods (more than 20 miles or so) in a while, so I dont' know if it occurs when the gear lube is up to temp. The problem has only surfaced within the past couple of weeks. The shudder can be felt through the seat, but I can't hear any noise coming from the rear end.

Would you suggest that I drain the diff lube and put in fresh, with a bottle of friction modifier? Considering the axles in these trucks are not supposed to be serviced (according to the owner's manual), I think this may be a little premature. Maybe I'll ask the dealer to take a look at it. That way, I can get the lube for free.

LHM - Yeah, you've got good taste too! Looks vaguely familiar, but I've got the electroninc shift-on-the-fly...

How do you like your Superchip? I've been debating whether to get one. How's the power/throttle response? Any changes in fuel economy?

Venom, I ordered the truck with the manual shifter, I had the electric shift on my ranger, and although it never gave me any trouble I never liked it too much. I love the chip, throttle reponse, tranny shifts and power are all great. I have never calculated milage on the truck before or after the chip. Some claim that milage goes up, but I am sure that is only if you can keep your foot out of it, which I can't I am hoping to get the truck back tomorrow or friday, withdrawl symptoms are getting worse by the day LOL.

It's the diff. I work with a guy that bought a new one and it started at 500 miles. They added the friction modifier and that took care of it. That was a year and a half ago.

I have this and it is not always on sharp turns. Occaisional shudder but mild for a split second coming out of turns mostly without going heavier on the gas than normal. I read on here somewhere that too much friction modifier will make the clutches ineffective

What is the best procedure to eliminate it: Should a little be added to see if the problem goes away, or is it best to drain and refil with a certain amount of the modifier? Draining looks like a pain without a drain plug!

I am experiencing the same problem with my truck. It happens when I first start driving the truck. It seems to only shudder when I am turning, I haven't noticed it when I am going straight. After I drive the truck a little bit it will not do it again. Any advice on adding the friction modifier?
