Has any one noticed that the frame cracks over the rear axle. draw a line from the axle up to the frame and you might see some cracks. mine is a 99 with 218,000 km and I have the cracks.

 

I've heard of one other truck on this board with those cracks but those only appeared after doing some jumping.

Are you sure it's not cracks in the wax coating?

 

I have a 97 F150XL 4.6L with 73,000miles. I use it to haul a small 2 horse bumper pull trailer with a 750 lb. pound, tonque weight is 250 lbs on a professionally installed class III hitch. My frame cracked in four place, one on either side of the hitch, one up the frame a little and one ahead of the leaf spring. I did not hit anything, the rust is not appreciable and never overloaded it. Everyone who sees it says they have not seen anything like it. My mechanic tried to order a new frame for it and ford said it would take a while cause they would have to build a new one. Seems they have made some changes. Any info. from anyone would be appreciated.

After a long hard battle, insurance covered having the frame replaced. According to my mechanic, they (ford ) had to build a new frame for it because they have "made some changes". The mechanic says they new frame they sent in much heavier and thicker. Do you pull a trailer?
