Question How much to install 4.10's?

I have a 97 F150 2wd with 315's, and i really need a power improvement. Should i go with 410s or 456's? How much to do this? Is it hard to do myself? Price on parts and labor? And a good brand gears to go with?
Thanks in advance

go 4.56 they will get you all your stock power back and some more. Cost since yours is 2wd will run approx. $600 depending on the shop. My local shop gave me a price of $1150 (mine's 4wd so you have to change 2 sets) and they mentioned that the front gears are harder to change anyway. So that price is my guess. Hope this helps.

With the 4.10s or 4.56's what is the gas mileage like? Is it worse than before gears or is it better with gears? How much of an affect is it?

Thumbs up

Just put the 4.56's in this weekend. I've run through a little over a tank now, and I don't see a big difference in fuel mileage. It was worth swapping the gears, I wish I hadn't waited so long. As far as price, I couldn't tell you. I have a buddy that owns his own shop and he helped me.

JSL1414,

I changed from 3.55 to 4.10s. Cost just under $600 including labor. I did mine for better acceleration as my tires are 315 55 x 16. Much better acceleration. Got 1 mpg less in town. Haven't taken a trip yet to get highway mileage. Best of luck!

Are the gears worth getting for the price and the loss in gas mileage?
