Diff Fluids....

Just wondering how many miles you guys/gals have went before changing the diff fluids? I was at an oil change place last night, and I had to laugh when the brought the sheet to me saying what was recommended....and get this it said that they should be changed every 3,000 miles.....Damn that would get expensive.

diffentials and such...

I know that Ford recommends changing the transfer fluid at 30k, I just hit that mark and am changing both differentials also.

I will be using Mobile One Synthetic 75w90 for the front and Mobile One Synthetic 75-145 for the back. Ford claims the rear differential is good for 100k miles but they also claim their doors do not crack...

What were you thinking???

It was 50 degress here the other day and you had one of these little monkeys change your oil??? ***scratching my head***

Which oil change place was this???

Kind of scary the things you hear from people that should be informed about this sort of thing huh? Maybe they were testing you

I actually changed mine for the first time at 75,000 last Friday because the weather was so warm here and I wanted to make sure that the vibration I've been feeling wasn't from the rear end.

The oil that came out was a very dark grey and I put in Redline 80W140. The Redline was transperant like motor oil.

Ajragno-
I didn't have them change the differential fluids, I will do that myself, I had the oil changed, because I am a big guy and have a hard time getting the darn oil filter off the truck, as it is located about the front diff, and I can't get my arm in there....Plus I was in a hurry, and was going somewhere right away. I know, what was I thinking.
I don't think I am going to worry about changing it out just yet, as I haven't had any problems with it, and haven't had it backed into the water launching the boat....just a little offroading so it never really gets submerged anyways.
Thanks for the information......I am sitting at 63,000 miles right now, so I was just wondering if anyone else had heard this information if they had their oil changed at a place like that....It was the Valvoline Instant Oild Change on 52nd and Unniversity in Fridley........

MNFORD99,

I was just pokin' at you because the weather has been so warm up here this winter that I've been able to keep up with the regular maintenance on my own instead of having to pay someone.

I was even able to wash my thruck in the driveway on Jan. 8th. *Jan. 8th in Minnesota and it was in the 50's!!!*

These quick lube places make me uneasy because of the high turn-over rate. I get nervous enough with a factory trained Ford tech working on my truck.

As for the rear differential fluid change; it's not the most difficult job I've performed on the truck but it was a bit of a pain, lying under the truck and pumping fluid into that tiny fill plug. You need a very small hose.

Even though mine has never been fully submerged at the boat ramp, there was definately water in the differential.
