Question diff. vent tube

I noticed this morning that there was something hanging down from my differential. I went to investigate and noticed that it looked like a vent tube. But, it was attached to the driver's side axle housing. My question is, is this the diff. vent tube? and also, what should I do with it? where should I attach it to? THanks.

If you crawl under the truck you will notice a black plastic nipple right above the location of the tube in the truck bed frame. This vent hose hooks to it. Mine fell off too!

Broke mine when lifting the truck. Bought a new one and everything is OK.

It does exactly what it seems like it would, vent the rear axle. It's also a great place for water to get into the axle

That's why the owners manual "suggests" you change the axle fluid if you have driven through water higher than the hubs.
