CV Boot Question

I have a maintenance questions regarding CV Boots for axles. Over the past few years, i have had a few people tell me that the boots should be lubricated with a silicone spray to keep them flexible and reduce the risk of them tearing. As time goes by i have been noticing a dirt or crust build up i think caused by the use of silicone spray. Will this buildup cause premature failure? should i stop using this spray? Any body else do this to there boots? Thanks.

I don't think most people do anthing with them, but a good silicone would keep them from dry rotting. I wouldn't worry too much about the builup.
