Question

I think that you can take out a fuse. I blew a fuse a couple of times on my 1993 F-150 and everyguage worked except the speedometer and Odo. The tranny won't shift right though. First is a bear!

As the man said, "Ya'all be in a heap of trouble talking about such things." Who would want a vehicle after someone put unknown thousands of miles on it just to beat a lease or whatever reason?

If you figure out how to do it, don't tell. The flames on this site will reach out all over the place.

Bearintex,

Fast46triton is correct, the last guy that asked about this illegal procedure got flamed big time........

I cannot imagine one valid reason to disconnect your odometer except for the sake one's own self interest.

Gonna trade your vehicle or is your lease up? Approaching your lease limit for mileage? Maybe get a lot more for a trade in? And let some poor sucker that can barely afford the price of the vehicle think he is getting a "low mileage creampuff?"

Who would want to "test" a vehicle and not register any mileage? Even a legitimate new vehicle dealer wouldn't do this. Why should he?

Exclamation

From what I have heard..the computer automatically tracks the mileage in addition to the odometer (if you have the equipment to check it).

I agree...don't do it....

Actually in the 99s the computer is the only thing traking mileage.
You can swap out the whole instument cluster and the new one will show the same miles as the old one.
PPL are swaping the inst cluster to get the tach.

Post Turning off odometer?

Is there any way? I know that with the older, two button digital odometers, there was a sequence you could go through to shut them off, so that the vehicles could be tested without registering any miles. 99 4.6 SC 4X4 ORP Automatic, by the way.

Cool

True 54regcab..my old 98 was not a digital display as in my 2000.

There sure are a bunch of modifications/changes between the 98 and 2000 model (especially under the truck)! Braking is MUCH better to say the least.

Angry

bearintex,

I hate to tell you this but there is no test that you need to do that requires shutting down the digital odometer. Whatever tests it is that you plan on performing on your truck, you cannot bypass the digital odometer system, The mileage is tracked by the trucks CPU. Various sensors on the drivetrain and on the wheels tells the CPU if the digital odometer has been disconnected, once it senses this then your truck will not run at all or run very poorly. Why not take it to your local FORD dealer and let them run the tests? those guys have all the proper test equipment to troubleshoot your truck. The members on this website are the most knowledgeable guys and gals that i have seen, and we'll be more than glad to help you out if you need it but not on this matter.
