I have a Mag-Hitec and it's awsome.
It has a drain plug and magnetic dip-stick. It's all aluminum with stainless hardware. All seals are o-rings and re-usable. Took me 20 minutes to remove the old cover, clean the mating surface and put the new one on. Would be easier to fill with the spare tire lowered but it was still a lot easier than filling using that small plug on the front of the diff housing.

BUT ! It does cost a bunch...

aluminum diff cover

The differential cover on my 99 f150 was rusting bad from putting my boat in the ocean so i started looking for a replacement but they were all pricey. The other day while i was working on a customers crown vic i noticed that it came stock with a nice aluminum diff cover,so i did a little checking and it is a direct replacement for the f150.I got a used one from a salvage yard from a 93 crown vic and it worked perfectly.I even sanded it with 1500 and polished it with some metal polish and it looks like chrome.I only paid $20 for it but a new one was only $38.It even makes the truck look a little better.Dont forget to use the right gear lube when reassembling. It takes 75-140 synthetic(about 3 quarts and a bottle of limited slip additive if applicable)I was only able to find the oil at ford and it costs about $18 a bottle

Skip the Crown Vic cover mod for 9.75"ers, they use an 8.8".

Question

Anybody have a part # for the Crown Vic cover? Is it finned or smoth?

I have a Mag-Hytec on my F250. Real nice and worth the bucks. I have had people chase me down to find out what it is and where to get it.

Any others?

I am looking for one that is a bit cheaper, but provides extra strength, like a girdle-type. I noticed that MAC parts makes one for an 8.8 Mustang diff that is cast, but with extra stingers and stiffening members that I wouldn't mind getting. It holds more fluid, too. It is a lot cheaper than the fancy one you guys have mentioned, but I want to make sure it indeed fits our 8.8 truck axles. Can anyone comfirm this for me? If anyone has any other names of covers/girdles, I would appreciate it, thanks!
